Course Outline

The Certificate III in Individual Support is regarded as the entry-level qualification for people who wish to work as a carer in Australia.

This course covers the practical skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively in the community. There is an emphasis on person-centred support, communication and delivery of care services. You will be working closely with leading disability and support organisations during your studies and work-placement.

This qualification is delivered in partnership with Activ Pathways (RTO No. 51960), the associated training organisation for Activ. Since 1951, Activ has supported people living with intellectual disability to live the life they choose. Today, Activ support more than 1,900 individuals and their families across WA. On completion of this course, you will be eligible to enter further studies in this field or apply directly for employment.

An optional CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) dual qualification is available.

*Please note all WAIFS courses are also offered via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
** This course will be delivered and assessed via classroom delivery, distance learning and online assessment.

  • Entry Requirements

    Successful completion of year 10 (or equivalent).

    IELTS score of 4.5 (or equivalent).

  • Work-Based Training

    You are required to undertake 240 hours of work-placement. You will be working alongside qualified professionals, supervised by trainers and designated supervisors at the host employer. This practical component is linked to several units of competency in the Certificate III. All students who are meeting the relevant requirements of their course will be provided with a work-placement.

  • Dual Qualification

    For students looking to have further skills and job opportunities in an aged care facility, an optional dual qualification is available for CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing). Students will need to complete additional units and a work-placement component. This is undertaken within the 52 week duration of the course.

    The fee for this is $1,150 AUD. Upon successful completion, students would receive two certificates.

  • Pathways/Articulation

    Successful completion of this qualification provides you with a pathway into other Certificate III and Certificate IV level qualifications in the Community Services and Health Training Packages. You may be able to receive exemptions from some subjects based on this qualification.
