Course Outline

Hospitality is one of the fastest growing industries around the world, bringing in a significant amount of economic growth each year. If you are wanting to stand out when applying for employment opportunities within hospitality, our Diploma of Hospitality Management could help you do just that. It will provide you with a sound understanding of the managerial side of the business, as well as being able to provide high-quality customer service and develop strong business relationships with stakeholders. You will also be taught how to prepare dishes using basic methods of cookery, adhere to hygienic standards required in any hospitality environment, and how to develop a food safety program. At the completion of this course you should be equipped with the necessary tools needed to succeed in any endeavor that you pursue.

This qualification is suitable for students interested in both becoming a Chef or Hospitality Industry Manager.

** This course will be delivered and assessed via classroom delivery, distance learning and online assessment.

  • Entry Requirements

    Successful completion of Year 12 (or equivalent).

    IELTS score of 5.5 (or equivalent).

  • Work-based Placement & Practical Training

    All students studying the Diploma of Hospitality Management will undertake at least 200 hours of work-based placement, linked with a number of units of competency in the Diploma. Students will undertake the practical components of their course in the hospitality industry and work alongside qualified professionals and/or skilled workers. Students are supervised during these placements by WAIFS trainers and designated supervisors at the host employer.

    Students will also undertake approximately 160 hours of practical training in WAIFS kitchen before going to work-based placement.

  • Pathways/Articulation

    After achieving a Diploma of Hospitality Management, you may undertake our Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management, or a range of other Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree qualifications. You may also be able to receive exemptions from some subjects based on this qualification.
