Course Outline
This qualification provides the knowledge and skills needed to assist a dentist, dental hygienist or dental therapist during all health care procedures, to help maintain high standards of infection control and to assist with practice administration. Successful completion of this certificate qualifies you for employment as a Dental Assistant.
As part of your Certificate III in Dental Assisting course, you would undertake 250 hours of clinical placement, linked with a number of units of competency in the certificate program. The training will take place in a dental setting, working alongside qualified professionals and being supervised by WAIFS trainers and designated supervisors at the host employer.
*Please note all WAIFS courses are also offered via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
This course will be delivered and assessed via classroom delivery, simulated environments, work-based training, portfolios, presentations, knowledge questions, and written assessments.

Entry Requirements
Successful completion of Year 10 (or equivalent).
For International Students studying vocational (VET) course/s only; IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
For International students studying English (ELICOS) and a VET course; IELTS 5.0 or equivalent and 20 weeks of ELICOS or IELTS 5.5 or equivalent and 10 weeks of ELICOS.

Work Based Placement
All students of Certificate III in Dental Assisting undertake 350 hours of clinical placement, linked with a number of units of competency in the Certificate III in Dental Assisting. Students will undertake the practical components of their course in the health sector and work alongside qualified professionals. Students are supervised during these placements by WAIFS trainers and designated supervisors at the host employer.

Pathways/Articulation
Successful completion of this qualification provides you with a pathway into HLT45021 Certificate IV in Dental Assisting. You may be able to receive exemptions from some subjects based on this qualification.

Lower fees, local skills — Reduced course feesThrough the Lower fees, local skills program, this course is from a selection of over 180 qualifications and enjoy half-price course fees capped to an annual total of $400 for unemployed and concession students and youth (ages 15—24), and $1,200 for non-concession students.
